Bio
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Angie began studying music theory and taking keyboard lessons at age four. At age six she started private piano lessons in a competitive environment, studying within the Yamaha Music Education System. In 1990 she immigrated to the United States and continued to study piano privately, perform as a solo pianist, and receive superior ratings at state music festivals. While attending Cooper City High School, she accompanied all three choirs, school's band members in states competitions, and other area choirs.
Angie graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a certificate in Computers in Music. She studied piano with Professor Leonard Mastrogiacomo, and voice with Liane Grasso. She accompanied for voice students under professors Janice Harsanyi, Larry Gerber, Gale Seaton, and strings students under professor Karen Clarke. As a vocalist, she performed with the Tallahassee Community Chorus under the direction of Dr. Andre Thomas, the Women’s Glee Club under Dr. Judy Bowers, and the University Singers under Dr. Thomas and Dr. Kevin Fenton. Under Dr. Thomas’s directorship, she performed with the University Singers at the Kennedy Center for the 2000 MENC (The National Association for Music Education) conference. The Tallahassee Community Chorus also collaborated with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. As a member of this choir, she performed under conductors David Hoose and Robert Shaw.
After completing her undergraduate studies, Angie accompanied budding musicians at the Pittsfield Community Music School in the Berkshires, Massachusetts. It was here that the Suzuki Method was introduced to her, and since she has had the honor of studying under Caroline Fraser, Mary Craig Powell, and Doris Harrel for Suzuki Piano Books 1-4. She has recently performed as a vocalist with Coro Allegro of Boston under conductor David Hodgkins and completed a Master of Arts degree in Visual and Media Arts at Emerson College, specializing in Audio and New Media Production. She currently works as a Product Manager at Public Interactive in Boston, as well as being a Flash consultant for Russell Street Web Hosting in Cambridge.
To expand her horizons as a music teacher, she has successfully completed training as a Music Together teacher, under the direction of Susan Darrow. This fall marks her second year teaching and accompanying part-time at the Suzuki School of Newton. When she isn’t at her piano or her computer, she enjoys singing, dancing, reading, cooking, and being in good spirits.
